Roda JC commits its platform against financial problems among young people
Did you know that 1 in 10 young people in Parkstad grow up in poverty? A harsh reality that calls for action. With the ‘Geen Schuld’ programme, Roda JC, the City of Kerkrade, 'Gezond in Mijn Streek' and partners Flowtraders Foundation and Hartwig Foundation are joining forces to make financial problems negotiable and help young people on their way to a debt-free future.
Friday the 29th of November, the kick-off was given during the Roda JC - FC Volendam match. The players wore one-off red jersey numbers to draw attention to financial problems and break the taboo on debt. At the same time, a powerful video was launched through various channels, urging young people to talk about their debts and seek help in time.
The 'Geen Schuld' programme targets young people aged 14 to 27, with a special focus on the transition to financial independence. The name 'Geen Schuld', refers to both English translations 'No Debt' and 'No Guilt'. In addition to raising awareness through, for example, red jersey numbers, the programme also offers practical support. These range from locker room sessions, 1-on-1 coaching and financial training in collaboration with schools. Together with local partners such as Schuld Hulp Maatje Parkstad and Stichting Jens, young people and their families are guided to tackle financial problems and lay a healthy foundation for the future.
As far as we are concerned, this is a powerful example of how sport can connect, accelerate and highlight important issues. Together, we are making a difference for young people in Parkstad.
